How often a Porsche needs servicing
Most Porsches want a service every 12 months or so, or every 15,000 km, whichever comes first. If you actually use the car the way it’s meant to be used, more often is better. Brake fluid in particular matters more on a car that sees track days or spirited driving. We’ll set a schedule that suits how you drive, not a one-size-fits-all.
What’s in a Porsche service
Oil and a genuine-spec filter, a proper look over the brakes and tyres, fluids checked and changed as due, a full diagnostic scan, and the service interval reset. You get an honest report on what needs doing and a stamp in the book. No invented jobs, no shortcuts.
The bigger inspection services add spark plugs, extra filters and a closer look at the suspension and driveline. If your car has a PDK gearbox, the fluid and filter are a service item too. We do it with the correct spec at the right interval.
The Porsche jobs we see most
Porsches are very well engineered, but every model has known points worth watching:
- IMS bearing on the older water-cooled flat-sixes (early Boxster, Cayman and 996/997 911). It’s the classic Porsche talking point, and worth assessing on any used example of that era.
- Bore scoring on some of the same M96/M97 engines. We listen and diagnose properly before anyone panics.
- Coolant pipes on the early Cayenne and Panamera V8s. The original plastic connections can weep, and the fix is a known, worthwhile upgrade.
- Suspension arms and bushes (the ‘coffin arms’ on some models) that wear and affect handling and tyre life.
- Water pumps, thermostats and the usual brakes. On a Porsche the brakes are a real safety item, not a place to cut corners.

What does a Porsche service cost?
Less than the dealer, and quoted before we start. A minor service is a smaller job than a major inspection with plugs, filters and a PDK service, and any repair work is priced on top. We quote on your exact model (a Macan is not a 911) and only for what it genuinely needs. No padded invoice, no surprises.
Independent, and your warranty’s safe
Australian Consumer Law lets you service a Porsche at an independent specialist without affecting your new-car warranty, as long as the work meets Porsche’s standards and uses the right parts. We follow the schedule, document every step and keep your records straight.
Signs your Porsche is due for attention
These cars talk to you if you listen. Book it in if you notice:
- A service message on the dash, or it’s simply been 12 months or 15,000 km
- A coolant smell or drips on the garage floor. Worth checking early on the V8 models
- A creak, knock or vague feel from the front suspension over bumps
- The brakes feeling soft or the pedal travelling further than it should. Never leave this on a Porsche
- A rattle, tick or oil weep you haven’t heard before
- Any warning light you can’t explain. We’ll scan it and tell you exactly what it is

Model notes from the workshop floor
- 996 and 997 911, 986 and 987 Boxster and Cayman. The IMS bearing, rear main seal and bore scoring are the known worries on these engines. A pre-purchase inspection with a borescope is money well spent, and the bearing is best dealt with when the clutch is out.
- 991 and 992 911, 981 and 718 Boxster and Cayman. Far fewer horror stories. PDK fluid, coolant, brakes and tyres are the routine visits, plus the direct-injection carbon clean on higher-kilometre cars.
- Macan and Cayenne. Transfer-case wear, air suspension, coolant pipes on the earlier Cayenne V8s and heavy brake and tyre wear. Alignment after suspension work is essential on these.
- Panamera. PDK fluid, coolant system and air suspension, with big brakes and tyres to match.
- Taycan. No oil, but brakes that seize from under-use, tyre wear from the weight and torque, battery coolant and the 12-volt battery.
